Well, the short answer is NO! Here are a few reasons why:
1. Rooms do run out: It doesn't happen often for some of the more standard rooms or at some of the more off-season travel dates, but rooms do actually run out. I always tell my clients, consider that this the 'worst case scenario' pricing. This way, when the promo is announced, and I get on the phone to have Disney fix your reservation, you will have some extra money in your budget! (Notice how i plugged using a Disney Travel Agent right there? A Disney Travel Agent will do that work for you!)
2. Just because it was a promo last year does not guarantee that it will be a promo this year. While "most" promos are fairly predictable, there is certainly no guarantee. Disney analyzes room demand before they offer promos. It's like any other business and if there is plenty of demand, they do not necessarily have to offer a promo. They have occasionally shifted, changed, and cancelled promos over the years, so "waiting" for the promo may prove to be futile anyway.
3. It's a reasonable deposit for that piece of mind. When you book a package the deposit is only $200 with the package remainder due 45 days out. This provides you with a lot of flexibility as to when to pay and how to pay off your vacation. You can pay a little at a time or all at once on day 45. If a promo is announced after you have paid off your package, you will get a refund so there is no danger! If you are making a room only reservation, only the first night is due as a deposit with the rest being due at checkout. Buyer beware: If you are booking a room only reservation and then a package promo is offered, it's not just a "change". You are essentially cancelling the room and booking a new package. That can get tricky, so this is another instance in which it is helpful to have a Disney Travel Agent take care of it for you (our services are free!!)
